Meet Julie Wickham
We love getting to know the members of our community. This month, we asked Julie Wickham to share how the Yoga for Eating Disorders Facebook Community helps her in her recovery. This is what she told us about how the group encourages and motivates her:
“The Y4ED community helps me in many ways! First and foremost, connection! The feeling of isolation was excruciatingly painful for me. So when someone says something that I can relate to and motivates me with support during the Connection Calls, my heart lights up, and I feel grateful to be heard and understood!
The practice of journaling, mindfulness, and yoga are keys for me in connecting with myself instead of the eating disorder. These practices quiet my mind so I can hear my true self. This group encourages these practices, and I love that! We are like-minded people in this group. I really think it's awesome that I can walk alongside someone who is struggling like me, halfway around the world and practice recovery with them!
The Connection Calls, the courses offered, and the space we hold for each other, are gifts to heal our souls and recover our lost selves! The eating disorder usually says not to do these things, and yet, my healthy self says, "Do it! That's like you!" And after I show up for myself, I feel really grateful inside! It's truly an honor to be included in the Y4ED group. I'm thankful for everyone in the community and all it is teaching me!”
