Meet Brehan Corveau
Meet our Y4ED Featured Community Member, Brehan Corveau. Here Brehan shares how the Y4ED community has provided her a space to simply be; with no expectations or judgments. Read Brehan's story:
“My journey of recovery was a very lonely time with much of my healing done in solitude. Last year a friend recommended Jennifer’s Wednesday support group Connection Calls and decided to give it a try. Up until then I never explored any part of my recovery openly with others. This space offers me both ends of the spectrum - routine meetings and gatherings yet, I’m never forced to show up; a place where I can share and be as involved as I wish, or reserve it for another time. Judgment (of myself and others) always left at the door when entering this tender space.
At times it’s easier to come up with words that describe the opposite of what community is to me: isolation, loneliness, longing, or otherness. What I’ve found in this space is a network, a culture of recovery, belonging, and familiarity. I have felt so supported and all I had to do was say yes. Yes to showing up, yes to comradery, yes to joy and accountability. In this community, I get to see more clearly where I’ve been and maintain the strength to stick with the new experiences that come up, even when there are setbacks. I am so thankful for the words, laughter, tears, and silence that we’ve shared.
I never felt like there was a need to explain the entire backstory of how I ended up here and that is comforting because, for me, it can still be a confusing story. One that I still explore with deep curiosity. I can see where I’ve been and be inspired by others in the place where they are. While I continued to attempt to heal from my ED alone, I instead found community while in recovery. This is the newest (and best) part of my 13-year journey!”
